Lagos is situated in the Western Algarve region of Southern Portugal, 35 kms east of Sagres and Cape St. Vincent, 275 kms from Lisbon and Seville in Spain, and 70 kms from Faro International Airport.

An ancient maritime town dating back over 2,000 years, it was settled by the Carthaginians and Romans. Subsequent occupiers included the Visigoths, the Byzantines and the Moors, the latter occupying and fortifying the city in the 8th century. It then became part of a coastal region called al-Gharb, from whence evolved today's name for the region - Algarve.

Today, Lagos is a vibrant leisure and fishing port as well as a delightful tourist destination, which retains its strong Portuguese influence.
