Maximising teaching time in the constant search for effective teaching methods!

Following feed-back from teachers after the 2009 Teachers Course, the Associação da Dança Ibérica is offering TWO Teachers Courses during Dance Algarve 2010.

We hope to welcome back teachers who attended during 2009 and meet new teachers from across Europe and beyond.

Course 1

  • for teachers of students from 5 to 8 years and from 9 years upwards through the graded system.
  • motivating graded students attending 1 or 2 lessons a week towards secure technique and greater enjoyment.

2 days / 12 Hours

Topics will include:

  • The fundamentals of teaching movement leading to secure basic ballet technique.
  • Working with different bodies – helping students to get the best out of their physiques. CORE CONTROL, muscles, not mystery !
  • FUN – WORK – FUN “It's not cool to move” ! Developing strength and control through aerobic exercises that keep the interest and increase expectations.
  • HOW TO TEACH ! Vocabulary, analysis and teaching theory.

NB: The use of music and the importance of rhythm, dynamics, interpretation and performance will be incorporated within the Course.

Course 2

  • for teachers of students studying ballet 3 or 4 times a week at vocational levels.
  • Developing technique and artistry at advanced levels

Friday, 2 April 2009
Saturday morning, 3 April, 2009 (1/2 day)

Topics will include:

  • Helping students to understand the approach towards dedicated ballet training.
  • Working with different bodies – helping students to get the best out of their physiques. CORE CONTROL, muscles, not mystery !
  • Vocabulary and analysis: in-depth study of selected movements and teaching theory.
  • Teaching Allegro: Moving at speed – technical requirements – use of rhythm.
    • PETITE
    • MEDIUM
    • BATTERIE
    • GRANDE
  • Teaching Pointe work: Physical requirements – Development of skills towards high levels.

NB: The use of music and the importance of rhythm, dynamics, interpretation and performance will be incorporated within the Course.

Notes:

Teachers are welcome to attend both Courses as they will find relevant areas of study across the topics listed.

Observing Classes:

Teachers participating in either Course 1 or Course 2 or both Courses will be welcome to observe classes that form part of the Dance Algarve student course during free time.

Warm-up morning class:

Teachers wishing to take class as a warm-up to the day may attend Dance Algarve students classes, space permitting. Please consult with the Dance Algarve Team as to which classes have available space.
